From classrooms to boardrooms, across borders and beyond convention, we are committed to empowering every woman, everywhere.

what we do

Women In Unexpected Places (WIUP) is a global charity celebrating success and creating opportunities in spaces and sectors still dominated by men.

why we do it

Right now, across the world, women’s rights are once again being eroded and more and more girls are finding themselves navigating lives shaped by conflict and repression.

how we do it

Through fundraising and partnering with businesses, universities, and other charities, we are committed to getting girls out of war zones, securing visas, establishing internships, and empowering women and girls to determine their own future.

Run for Freedom

A challenge like no other
for a cause like no other
As part of our first initiative,
our founder, Sarah Porter,
will be running The Spine Ultramarathon in 2026.

It’s a brutal challenge. 108 miles. 60 hours. 5,500m of ascent. -10° temperatures. Yet it will never compare to the daily challenge of life for girls and young women in conflict zones.
